Windows Live Mail or Livemail on Blackberry - it WORKS

At LAST, I am able use my Hotmail/Livemail account on my Blackberry.

I have seen a lot of posts over the Internet that Hotmail/Livemail is not supported on Blackberry, as it doesn’t support HTTP mail connection.

I have a windows office paid account, which gives me: myname@myowndomain.com. I have a Blackberry curve from AT&T (formally Cingular).

Here’s what I did: As a last option, I called up AT&T to buy windows mobile device, but the representative suggested that I talk to Blackberry (every provider has direct blackberry support for their customers) support before buying Windows mobile phone. The representative gave me a Case Number and transferred me to Blackberry.

The Blackberry support person I spoke with had very good knowledge about this Hotmail/Livemail issue. I explained my problem, and he was confident that he can make it work.

Blackberry supports HTTP email requests. They just need to manually add the settings on their end (not on ours from BIS login or on the phone). He wanted to test my email settings before he confirmed, so I had to give him my password. He used my login details and checked the settings, and was able to successfully connect to the hotmail/livemail server using their server.

But looking at the total number of emails (I had 8,000+ emails on the server), he recommended moving them to my local outlook folder/different folder. I got the number down to 700 emails (blackberry recommends to have less than 900 emails in the inbox). We did a couple of test emails and WOW I started getting emails to my blackberry. I WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE THE HOTMAIL/LIVEMAIL EMAILS COMING TO MY BLACKBERRY.

Couple of things:

Good news:
Emails sync up properly(webmail, outlook and my balckberry)

Some minor issues:

  • There might be a 15-20 minute delay in the getting the emails, depending on the hotmail/livemail server speed.
  • Microsoft implemented this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captcha to protect the emails from spam. Sometimes I had to log in to the Web to verify my account. Note: This happens rarely and only happens when we try to send an email using our Blackberry.

So call up your service provider to get hotmail/livemail on your blackberry.
